COMBINE OL/RB NOTES
WHO STOOD OUT
Quentin Nelson solidified himself as the top lineman in the draft. He ran well despite a tight hamstring. McGlinchey had a solid performance and posted some okay numbers. His workout wasn't outstanding, but didn't hurt him either. Will Hernandez had a great workout. A bull in the trenches, he showed movement and agility. James Daniels did not run the 4, but impressed in drills. He is a natural athlete and plays with a good base. Austin Corbett and Kolton Miller are the biggest risers. Both put up impressive numbers and ran well. Corbett is a well liked pick for his athleticism and versatility. Miller is a big man with good athleticism. Inconsistent on film, but showed out today. Greg Senat stood out as a Day 3 player who has had a good performance.
Saquon Barkley blew up the combine as expected. He timed exceptionally well, caught everything thrown to him and literally set the bar for all the backs. Derrius Guice showed he is another talented prospect with very good speed and quickness. He didn't display exceptional hands, but caught the ball well. The tandem of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb had solid performances as well. Both caught the ball well. Michel got to show scouts how well he ran routes after the workout for scouts with a few other players. Chubb ran well displaying quality speed for a big back. Penny also performed well. He was overshadowed by the performances of the other backs.
The story of the day was the underwhelming performance of Orlando Brown. Brown was the top tackle on our board. After today's setback he will fall on many boards. His underwhelming 40 was just the start. He displayed a rare lack of effort. His weaknesses were enhanced by the low motor he displayed today. The only time he gave a average performance was on his kick slide drill. He lacks foot speed and has tight hips, but his size allows him to cover ground and get depth. Otherwise it was a brutal day.
Rough day for Ronald Jones. His day ended early with a hamstring injury on his 40 yard dash. Jones was looking to climb past Penny, Michel, Chubb and Johnson on the list of backs not named Barkley or Guice. Instead he got an early trip to the trainers.
