AHMAD BRADSHAW

RUNNING BACK - ARMY

GRADE - 5.92 (4th)

HGT:  5110 / WGT:  205

THE PLAYER- Ahmad Bradshaw led a very prolific Army rushing attack in 2017 from the quarterback position.  He wasn't a dynamic passer, but his running skills are a major part of made the Army triple option so dangerous.  He rushed for 1746 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.  He was the leader of a rushing attack that led the nation in rushing yards per game with an average of 362.3.  His 2017 performance led him to set the single season rushing yardage record at Army.

STRENGTHS- Bradshaw is an explosive runner with good quickness and elusiveness.  He flashes the ability to run between the tackles.  Shifty player that avoids the first tackler.  Good short area quickness and feet.  Hits holes quickly and decisively.  No wasted motion in his running.  Gets North/South once he sees the hole. Has good speed and burst to the edge.

WEAKNESSES- As a college QB he wasn't asked to block or catch passes. Was an option QB so seeing the hole will take an adjustment as he will 7 yards deep.  Untested hands.  Lacks experience at the position. Has not run pass routes, nor has he caught passes.  He hasn't had to pick up blitzes.  Taking handoffs instead of giving them will be a new experience for him.

BIG PICTURE- This is one of the most accomplished rushers in the nation.  In Army's offense he was asked to do a lot.  Looking at his skill set it translates to a zone scheme or even a power scheme.  He has the toughness to run between the tackles, as well as test the edges of the defense on zone runs.  He can evade defenders with a strong stiff arm, quick cut and go or set them up for an arm tackle just to slip through.  Where he might struggle is in the passing game.  I can see him struggle with blitz pickups until he gains more experience.  I can see him taking time to handle choice routes as seeing the coverage as a receiver is different from seeing them as a passer.  Going to a military academy means he has a mandatory service requirement.  Even with that being the case I would draft him anyway.  He is a talent you wait for.  Work ethic is beyond reproach.  Not a character concern for any team.
